The possibility of replacing the village DPW garage and the right location for the new structure was discussed at the village of Sylvan Beach were present for the regular meeting held at 3 p.m. Feb. 2. The present structure is 2,400 square feet and the door is too small causing extreme disadvantages. Although the building does meet the minimal requirements at this time, a new structure will be necessary relatively soon. The village needs at least 4,000 square feet of space for the highway equipment, offices and storage, according to highway superintendent Joe Benedict. A motion was carried by the board to have tentative plans made for a structure.
Benedict will also investigate the feasibility of the village DPW doing the garbage pick up. The thought is to save money for the residents of the village while still maintaining an attractive appearance.
The upstairs of the Deli Mart is now used for storage only so is now accessed as one unit keeping inline with other establishments of the same type.
Laurie Benedict, deputy clerk, and Benedict have completed an online two-hour tutorial for Planning Board Overview.
Communications to the board included a letter from Johnson & Clark, Inc. owners of Splash’s Bar-B-Que and Outback Pub to notify the board of their intentions to renew their liquor license in anticipation of the next tourist season. A letter from Tom Cooney from the Vets at the Beach enquiring about a meeting with the mayor, village board and village attorney was tabled until the matter can be investigated further.
Mayor Statkewicz appointed the election inspectors for March 18, Village Elections from noon to 9 p.m., at the village office located at 808 Marina Drive. Elaine DePerno-Brown is Chairperson; other inspectors are Michaela Knapp, Mary Cooper and Robert Osborne.
A reminder to the residents; A public hearing to adopt the new zoning law will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 16, Village Grievance Day is Tuesday Feb. 17 from noon to 4 p.m.. The next regular village meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16.
