By having a presence in most weight classes, the Skaneateles wrestling team was able to overcome a rough start in last Tuesday’s OHSL Liberty division meet against Jordan-Elbridge, beating the Eagles 45-30.
In fact, of the first six matches, J-E won four times, with three pins and a forfeit. Amid that, Kevin Pembridge did put the Lakers on the board at 119 pounds, pinning Preston Bishop midway through the third period.
Jacob Valentino, at 130 pounds, beat Mitch Cooper 8-2, but the Lakers still trailed 24-9 when it reeled off six straight wins to pull in front for good.
Chad Gray started the charge at 140 pounds by pinning Jesse Dexter in 3:42, after which Jacob Carvalho (145 pounds) came through with a pin of Alex Uranker in 1:22.
Kyle Sears (152 pounds), Jimmy Caro (160 pounds) and Ryan Kawyrga (171 pounds) didn’t even have to wrestle to claim forfeits, but Chris Wise added an exclamation point at 189 pounds by pinning Gage Thorpe in 1:01.
The Lakers then prepared for its own dual meet on Saturday, with Mohawk, Auburn and LaFayette serving as the opposition.
