In a fine opening effort, the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams both found lots of success during Monday night’s Jack Morse Relays at Manley Field House.
On the girls side, the Lakers got into some close, exciting races and finished fifth in the team standings with 24 points, trailing only CBA (34 points) among small schools. Liverpool won, overall, with 61 points.
Beatrice Walton, Christie Barnett, Bridget Field and Ellen Ford combined to earn a victory in the 4×400 relay, as the Lakers’ time of 4:21.99 beat Liverpool (4:34.85) by nearly 13 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the 4×200, the Skaneateles quartet of Barnett, Victoria Sakal, Cassie Berg and Carley Baulick appeared to have it won. But at the last possible moment, Cicero-North Syracuse passed the Lakers and won by one-hundredth of a second, 1:54.84 to 1:54.85.
To top off the night, Madison Eckles won the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches as her effort produced a third-place team finish, too.
On the boys end, Skaneateles claimed 10th place, with 17 points. Brae Kriever (third, 20 feet 1 1/2 inches) and Patrick Rooney (eighth, 18 feet 9 1/2 inches) combined to finish second in the long jump, going 38 feet 11 inches as Jamesville-DeWitt (40 feet 4 1/2 inches) went to the top.
Going from there, Kriever and Rooney helped Calvin Davis and Sean Cooper put up a second-place time of 3:39.92 in the 4×400 relay. Only CNS (3:37.94) proved faster.
