For the most part, local indoor track and field teams had modest showings when gathered for Monday night’s season-opening Jack Morse Relays at Manley Field House.
In boys action, West Genesee tied Liverpool and Auburn for sixth place, each of them with 19 points as Cicero-North Syracuse (52 points) finished on top.
Zac Karpinski, Zack Lafaver, Jake Lafaver and Ron Ta combined to give the Wildcats a victory in the 4×200 relay in a time of 1:38.38, beating Corcoran (1:39.04). The Cougars’ Trenton Sparks competed despite being stabbed in his left arm trying to break up a fight earlier in the day.
Steve Houghmaster joined Ta, Tom Hopkins and Billy Gabriel to land in second place in the distance medley relay in 11:01.34. Only Marcellus (10:41.67), with Chris Stogsdill at the helm, fared better.
Solvay earned nine points, many of them from Jeremy Santoferra clearing 10 feet 6 inches for second place in the pole vault. Bishop Ludden’s Sean Curry and Nick Barletta teamed with Zach Johnson and Jimmy Blasland for third in the 4×800 relay in 8:49.55.
For Westhill, the quartet of Ryan Brennan, Peter Clark, Chris Moore and Jake Files got fifth place in the 4×400 relay in 3:50.51, while Dan Eipp, Matt Trendowski, Sal Valenti and Dan Manzano were sixth in the 4×200 in 1:42.37. Jordan-Elbridge’s John Flynn tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 8 inches.
Westhill, ninth in the girls standings with 11 points, got there mainly by having Paula Sanz (7 feet 6 inches) and Caroline Buonocore (7 feet) make clearance in the pole vault, combining for second place behind Liverpool for eight points.
Elsewhere, Lissa DiPaola, Brenna Rainone, Katie Powers and Catherine Coon took fifth in the distance medley relay (13:51.24), while Buonocore, Mary Bailey, Molly Kiggins and Meg Dwyer got sixth in the 4×400 relay in 4:41.59.
Jordan-Elbridge had Kim Foltz, McKenzie Williams, Nicole Stroud and Rachel Betts finish third in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:55.18.
Solvay’s quartet of Rebecca Balduzzi, Christina Clemente, Rebecca Quick and Ashley Ramirez was fourth in the 4×200 in 1:57.58, while West Genesee’s young quartet of Anna Leo, Abby Kastick, Amy Hannahan and Kayla Murphy got sixth in the 4×800 relay in 11:00.64.
