Beginning what could be its last residency at Manley Field House, the Liverpool girls indoor track and field team quickly got into a winning mode.
The Warriors picked up 61 points and easily took first-place honors during Monday night’s Jack Morse Relays. Cicero-North Syracuse and Jamesville-DeWitt tied for second, each of them with 38 points, with CBA (34 points) in fourth place.
Though strong in so many events, the Warriors won just once, in the pole vault, where Sara Rothenberg and Chelsea Attaway combined to clear 15 feet, just ahead of Westhill (14 feet 6 inches) at the wire.
Otherwise, Liverpool built its point total with lots of runner-up efforts, starting in the distance medley, where Miranda McConnell, Trina Bills, Skye Borasky and Brigid Heenan posted a time of 13:23.22, behind only CBA (12:54.53).
Also, Heenan, Attaway, Rachel Putman and Nicole Barrett got to second place in the 4×800 relay in 10:36.36. McConnell and Borasky joined Jamie Vittorio and Nachez Brown for a runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay in 4:34.85.
Harmony Cross and Megan Earle were second in the 55-meter hurdles (20.15 seconds). Cross and Meagan Turner combined to clear 9 feet 6 inches in the high jump, the same as J-D, but the Red Rams won with fewer misses.
Brown, Jenna Notar, Chenae Sinclair and Armani Moore got third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.57, while Tatiana Gladney and Laura Racketa were fourth in the shot put, with total throws of 54 feet 2 1/2 inches.
Liverpool had 19 points in the boys version of the Morse Relays, tying for sixth place. The Warriors’ best finish came in the 55-meter hurdles, where Corey Bundrage (8.22 seconds) and Joe Spernyak (8.83 seconds) combined for 17.05 seconds, finishing a close second to Phoenix, who won with 16.99 seconds.
Colin Savage, Chris Clemons, Alex Wilke and Mike Samora posted a third-place time of 11:02.28 in the distance medley relay. Sopaul Khun and Brian Greene were fourth in the shot put (77 feet 1 1/2 inches), while Dion Dyer and Tony Shuler got sixth place in the long jump.
