In advance of one of its toughest weeks of the season, the Christian Brothers Academy girls basketball team kept itself unbeaten and opened 2009 in a strong and convincing manner.
The Brothers, off since a Dec. 16 win at Cortland, showed little rust in its return last Friday at Buddy Wleklinski Court, ripping Phoenix by a score of 80-28.
Eager to return to action after a 17-day rest, CBA had a 23-3 edge by the end of the first quarter and just kept building the margin.
A 25-5 domination of the third quarter reinforced the main point, as Leanne Ockenden hit on four 3-pointers on her way to 21 points and Kayla Stroman added 20 points.
Michelle Damico got 10 points, with Victoria Johnson getting six points. In fact, each of the 10 CBA players that saw action got at least one field before it was done.
Staying home on Tuesday night, CBA hosts Fulton, and it faces local rival Jamesville-DeWitt Friday night at 6 p.m., part of a doubleheader where the boys game between the Brothers and Red Rams follows. CBA then hosts Rochester Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
