Unbeaten so far in the 2008-09 season, the Canastota girls volleyball team kept up the good work during the holiday break.
Amid last Saturday’s Laidlaw Invitational, the Raiders finished first in its own Maroon pool, beating Lowville, Dolgeville and Camden for top honors. Chittenango and Old Forge also were in the group.
Canastota’s April Swanson earned MVP honors. Jessica DeNova got named to the All-Tournament team with Jacki Valken (Camden), Angela Williams (Old Forge), Rachel Antelmi (Chittenango), Cassie Scharpau (Dolgevillle) and Haley Strife (Lowville).
Meanwhile, in the Gold pool, Skaneateles won, followed by Adironack, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and Sauquoit Valley, with Morrisville-Eaton and Oneida taking up the rear.
The Lakers’ Ryan Merle took MVP honors in the group as setter Chloe Warner reached the All-Tournament team. VVS’s Rachel Brown, Oneida’s Kelly Insonrato and M-E’s Kendal Pickett grabbed All-Tournament honors, too, as did Kaitlin Kenny (Sauquoit) and Suzanne Jokaton (Adirondack).
Canastota and Adirondack will face off next Monday as the Raiders’ Center State Conference schedule resumes.
