All those long nights the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill girls basketball team fights through in the Tri-Valley League leads to some kind of reward.
For the Red Devils, one of the light moments came last Tuesday night when, in non-league play, it beat West Canada Valley by a score of 47-29.
VVS doubled the Indians’ production in the first quarter, outscoring them 14-7. Following a long lull, the Red Devils really put it away with an 11-4 sprint through the second quarter, all told, WCV had just eight points in those middle two periods.
Meanwhile, on the offensive side, Erin Curtis led a balanced VVS attack with 13 points, while Megan Reed earned 12 points and Courtney Smith earned nine points. Tracy Scheibel helped out with six points.
Having improved to 2-6 on the season, the Red Devils visit Candor this Tuesday for its last appearance before the calendar turns to 2009.
