Having spent two weeks away from Division II West opposition, the Skaneateles ice hockey team found itself out of first place by the time it returned.
Now chasing Corcoran in the standings, the Lakers hosted Watertown IHC last Tuesday night at Allyn Arena and scraped its way to a 3-2 victory over the Cavaliers.
Each team scored once in the first period, Matt Morgia converting for IHC. And it stayed 1-1 through a tense, scoreless second period, despite the fact that Skaneateles was getting a majority of the offensive chances.
In the final period, the Lakersk, despite a second Morgia goal, did edge in front, staying there as Patrick Emmer earned two goals and Packy Jones also scored. Dylan VanHoltz and Sean Cooney each had assists. In goal, Trevor Diamond only had to make eight saves.
Skaneateles pays a visit to Shove Park Tuesday night at 7:30 to take on undefeated West Genesee in a battle of defending sectional champions. The Wildcats have shut out its last three opponents.
