What has, so far, been a superb start for the Jordan-Elbridge girls basketball team continued just before the holiday break.
The Eagles’ record improved to 5-1 last Tuesday night as it staged a terrific second-half comeback on its home court to beat the Skaneateles Lakers 43-35.
Everything that had worked for J-E in its first five games disappeared in the first half. Skaneateles, winless to this point in 2008-09, took advantage of the Eagles’ early drought and led most of the way.
By the time the two sides reached the break, J-E found itself trailing 18-12, a troubling situation — but thanks to Liz Casapari, the Eagles would quickly recover.
During the third quarter, J-E more than doubled its output and outscored the Lakers 14-7, inching in front for good before picking up the tempo in the late going.
Caspari hit on seven field goals and eight free throws, adding up to 22 points, more than half of J-E’s output. Aimee Briggs helped with 10 points, while Kali Davis got five points. Jackie Leslie led Skaneateles with 14 points.
It could get even better if J-E wins its own holiday tournament, which starts Monday as the Eagles hosted Tully and Phoenix took on Hannibal. Both the consolation and championship games were set for Tuesday afternoon. Sessions start at 1 p.m.
