Though it has been highly tested outside the OHSL Freedom division ranks, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball team has ruled within, at least to this point.
The Red Rams made it 5-0 in league play last Tuesday night by dominating early against Chittenango and not letting go until it had won a 65-39 decision over the Bears.
Forcing turnovers and converting off of them, J-D had a 17-2 edge on Chittenango when the first quarter came to a close, and it spent the rest of the night building on that margin.
Theresa Hernandez set the pace with 15 points, while Alyssa Gratien got 12 points and Jessica Kramer added 11 points. Nicole Ortega and Molly Maroney earned eight points apiece. For Chittenango, Maggie Kendrick earned 14 points.
East Syracuse-Minoa also played on Tuesday, but never got close against unbeaten Mexico in a 65-32 loss to the Tigers.
Mexico, tied with J-D atop the OHSL Freedom division standings, did the same thing the Rams did to Chittenango, grabbing a 16-4 edge in the course of the opening period.
Even though Becky Teschler finished with 11 points, the Tigers just kept pulling away, as Evie Josbena had 13 points, with Angie Josbena and Chrissy Sawyer adding 11 points apiece.
The Spartans hosted the annual Vince Celi Memorial Tournament on Monday and Tuesday Onondaga, Baldwinsville and Whitesboro provide the opposition. J-D is off until Jan. 6, when it plays Phoenix.
