Going into the holiday break, the Chittenango girls basketball team sat at 1-4, having already gone up against most of the elite foes in the OHSL Freedom division.
That included Jamesville-DeWitt, where the Bears went last Tuesday night, only to take a 65-39 defeat to the Red Rams.
Right from the opening tip, Chittenango found itself in trouble, managing just a single field goal in the first quarter as J-D roared out in front 17-2.
Though it fared better in other parts of the game, the Bears would not catch up. Maggie Kendrick had 14 points, while Kayleigh Clark earned eight points. J-D, tied for first in league with Mexico, had Theresa Hernandez (15 points), Alyssa Gratien (12 points) and Jessica Kramer (11 points) all score in double figures.
On Monday afternoon, Chittenango takes on Madison County neighbor Cazenovia in the opening round of the Fabius-Pompey Tournament, with the winner to get F-P or Homer in Tuesday’s finals.
