To say that the Liverpool girls indoor track and field team was ready for action in the 2008-09 season would be understating the point.
All the Warriors did was go to Hamilton College for last Saturday’s CNYITA Invitational and put up 86 points, outlasting Cicero-North Syracuse, who finished second with 61 points.
Trina Bills and Miranda McConnell were responsible for 20 points by themselves. In the 1,000-meter run, Bills won the individual title in 3:11.47 as she and McConnell (fourth) put up a time of 6:28.56.
Later, in the 1,500-meter run, Bills was second and McConnell third behind CBA’s Katie Brislin, who won in 5:02.97, but their combined clocking of 10:27.80 secured another win.
Liverpool, in all, won six different events, including the 800-meter run, where Rachel Putman and Chelsea Attaway both finished in the top five and had a combined time of 5:10.98.
Harmony Cross (9.40 seconds) and Nachez Brown (9.92 seconds) worked together to win the 55-meter hurdles in 19.32 seconds, and Cross helped Meagan Turner in the high jump, each clearing 4 feet 10 inches. Attaway and Sara Rothenberg teamed in the pole vault to clear 15 feet and win there, too.
Elsewhere, Jennifer VanderMeulen won the individual triple jump, going 31 feet 6 inches, as she teamed with Christi Goetz for second place. Tatiana Gladney and Laura Racketa combined for second in the shot put (55 feet 5 3/4 inches), while Armani Moore and Ashley Twum got third in the 55-meter dash.
