Lingering with Mexico in the early OHSL Freedom division race, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball team did not let a little extra rest bother them.
Instead, the Red Rams put together one of its best efforts of the season in last Saturday’s game against Cortland, earning a 51-34 victory over the Purple Tigers.
Originally set to play Friday night, J-D and Cortland saw the game pushed back by a snowstorm, and it appeared to affect the Rams more, at least in the early going.
J-D trailed, 10-9, after one period, perhaps showing a bit of rust after a week in between games, but it turned around in a hurry.
Over the course of the next two periods, the Rams outscored Cortland 25-10, playing superb defense and putting the game essentially out of the Purple Tigers’ reach.
In the absence of Alyssa Gratien, Jessica Kramer and Nicole Ortega emerged as primary offensive weapons. Kramer finished with 16 points, while Ortega banged home four 3-pointers to account for most of her career-best 14 points. Micha Williams, Theresa Hernandez (six points each) and Liz Beville (five points) offered the help.
Weather permitting, J-D would put its perfect 4-0 league mark (5-3 overall) against Chittenango Tuesday night before taking a two-week break.
