Buoyed by wins in three different events, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team earned second place in the overall standings at last Saturday’s season-opening CNYITA Christmas Relays at Hamilton College.
When the totals were added up in these two-person events, the Northstars had 61 points, a number that beat everyone except Liverpool, who won with 86 points. Christian Brothers Academy was third with 49 points.
On the track, CNS found its main success in the 600-meter run. Nicole Campagna won the individual title in a time of 1:45.74 and teamed with Christina Sakowski (sixth) to win that event in a combined clocking of 3:37.41.
Meanwhile, in field events, Casey Wilmer (second) and Valerie Langevin (sixth) teamed up and won the shot put, their best throws adding up to 58 feet 3 1/4 inches. And in the triple jump, Lindsay Piraino (third) and Katie Kennedy (fourth) worked together and put up a top distance of 57 feet 3 inches.
CNS also tied Liverpool for high-jump honors as Gina Campagna and Jasmine Thompson combined to clear 9 feet 8 inches. Schuyler Cary combined with Sarah Lounsbury for third place in the 1,500-meter run in 10:57.32.
