Following back-to-back defeats to Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Utica Proctor, the Liverpool boys swim team was glad to get any kind of victory.
And the Warriors achieved it last Tuesday night, going to Utica Proctor and dominating in a 105-77 victory over the Raiders.
At the start, Joe Hens, Shane Donovan, Alex Perfitt and Steven Rogers combined to post a time of 1:59.06 in the 200 medley relay.
Hens, on his own, prevailed in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.60, while Donovan won the 200 individual medley in 2:23.02.
In a rare diving tie, Tim Roche and Taylor Vogt each picked up 188.40 points, coming after Tom Schmid’s victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.83.
Alex Coleman-Gridley was first in the 500 freestyle (5:34.08) and James Walker took the 100 backstroke in 1:00.75. Walker, along with Joe Lee, Ben Hanna and Paul Telesca, worked to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.36.
Two nights later, the Warriors rolled past Nottingham 88-80, but got to see one of the best swimmers in the area, too.
Dan O’Connor, a Westhill High School junior who competes for Nottingham because his native school does not have a team, raced without points counting. He still posted an eye-popping time of 4:42.23 in the 500 freestyle, not his fastest time of the season, but enough to set a pool record at the Warriors’ facility.
Otherwise, Liverpool had several winning efforts, including Dave Faes, David Glasser, Jake Burns and Paul Telesca teaming in the 200 medley relay for a time of 2:00.45.
Cory Spado won the 200 freestyle (2:01.17) before Coleman-Gridley took the 200 IM in 2:21.47. Hanna went to first place in the 50 freestyle in 24.39 seconds. Vogt improved to 188.75 points in diving.
Phil MacLeod emerged to swim the 100 freesetyle in 56.34 seconds, this after Donovan won the 100 butterfly (1:08.06). After some holiday rest, the Warriors compete in the CNY Counties League meet at West Genesee on Dec. 29.
