By taking control in both the middle and higher weight classes, the Marcellus wrestling team gained its second OHSL Liberty division victory in as many weeks.
And while the Mustangs’ 47-27 decision over Jordan-Elbridge last Thursday lacked the high drama of the 37-36 win over Skaneateles on Dec. 10, it sure proved more comfortable in terms of the winning margin for the home fans.
Marcellus only benefited from two forfeits, to Matt Dempsey at 125 pounds and Ross Bolewski at 215 pounds. Every other point was earned on the mat.
At 145 pounds, Anthony Lapczynski took all six minutes to earn a technical fall over Alex Urankar. Grant Hardy (152 pounds) followed by pinning Keith Hohm in 3:11, while Tim Reedy, at 160 pounds, gained his pin over Clint Daniels 20 seconds into the second period.
Up at 130 pounds, Pat Cost got a second-period pin over Mitch Cooper, as Austin Simone (135 pounds) pinned Eric Gross with 30 seconds left. At 189 pounds, Aaron Murphy won when his opponent, Taylor Charette, got disqualified.
For J-E, Colin Ennulate, at 103 pounds, pinned Keith McIntosh in 1:08, while Preston Bishop (119 pounds) took 2:37 to pin Garrett Crysler and Mike Nguyen, at 112 pounds, topped Matt Simms 9-3.
Matt McWethy worked quickly at 171 pounds, earning a pin over Rob Balluchi in 54 seconds, just as Jesse Dexter (140 pounds) pinned Brian Barrett in 1:11. The Eagles are off until Jan. 6, when it plays Homer.
