When at full strength, the Morrisville-Eaton wrestling team is quite formidable, as it showed last Tuesday night in the course of a 50-18 victory over Ilion.
Three days earlier, at the Calkins Tournament at Richfield Springs, the Warriors finished eighth in a 15-team field, with only Ethan Morley, at 135 pounds, reaching the finals. Alex Winham (125 pounds), Alex Marris (140 pounds) and Shane Strong (285 pounds) all had fourth-place efforts.
The stars returned for Ilion, including Ryan LeBlanc, who led M-E out of the gate as it put together seven consecutive opening wins against the Golden Bombers.
It opened at 145 pounds, with Joey VanDee routing Shane Murphy 16-3, and continued with a pair of quick pins. Jordan Doroshenko (152 pounds) finished off Corey Riley in 1:11, and Luke Collier (160 pounds) needed just 46 seconds to pin Casey Seaton.
When LeBlanc wrestled at 171 pounds, he needed less than two periods to earn a technical fall over Jon Treen, and Dalton Villnave (189 pounds) followed with a 29-second pin of Ben Johnson.
Alex Meyers showed up at 215 pounds and got a second-period pin of Zach Smith before Barney Prince, at 103 pounds, outscored Bryan Bennett in a 16-12 decision.
Following Ilion’s only three wins of the meet, Darren Perry (130 pounds) earned a pin over Kyle Salvagni in 3:27. At 135 pounds, Morley got past Lester Tucker 7-2 and Cody Frost (140 pounds) closed out the meet with a 16-1 technical fall over Jesse Marlowe.
On Friday and Saturday, if the weather allows it, M-E will compete in the Tri-Valley Tournament at Whitesboro.
