Thanks mainly to the work of Kayleigh Clark and Maggie Kendrick, the Chittenango girls basketball team has reached the win column.
The Bears secured a big lead in the first half of last Wednesday’s game against Phoenix, then held on the rest of the way to beat the Firebirds 45-34.
Sound play on both ends of the court allowed the Bears to surge in front, and a 15-7 run through the second quarter helped the margin to grow to 25-13.
Chittenango then held Phoenix to five points in the third quarter, preventing a comeback, as no single Firebird player had more than seven points.
By contrast, Clark had her way, picking up 19 points, and Kendrick wasn’t far behind, working her way to 15 points. Together, they accounted for 13 of the Bears’ 17 field goals.
