For the Chittenango wrestling team, wins against OHSL Freedom division foes continued to be quite elusive.
The Bears’ battle against Corcoran last Wednesday night came down to the final matches before it took a 32-27 loss to the Cougars.
Following years of competing as Fowler, the Syracuse city wrestling team changed its home base to Corcoran, and had roared out to a 3-0 start, 2-0 in league meets.
When they got together with Chittenango, the Bears struck first, at 189 pounds, as Kyle Schiedo won when Quindell Palmer had to pull out due to injury.
Corcoran won the next three matches, with Chittenango not scoring again until Gunnar Brooks, at 112 pounds, beat Kareeb Howard 7-1. Moments later, Cole Farsaci (119 pounds) recorded a 21-second pin of Axel Alesandro.
Now they traded wins, as Chittenango saw Wes Blanding (130 pounds) earn an 11-5 decision over Markeem Chaplin and Anthony Galoi (140 pounds) got past MyQuan Pringle 10-3.
But the Cougars would win the next three matches, clinching victory with David Minney’s technical fall over Jacob Jayson at 160 pounds. Ryan Schiedo (171 pounds) would close the meet when he pinned E.J. Harris in 3:45.
The Bears, like many of its neighbors, will go to Whitesboro this weekend for the Tri-Valley Tournament, weather permitting.
