When the Chittenango girls volleyball team got a glimpse of the top squads in the OHSL Freedom division, it didn’t prove to be a pretty sight — but the Bears also got over it in short order.
The Bears did not get much time on the court in last Tuesday night’s match against Fulton, taking a 25-17, 25-10, 25-8 loss to the Red Raiders.
Gretchen Blanding, in defeat, had two aces, as Fulton saw Ariel Streeter earn 27 assists, feeding Brianna Streeter (nine kills) and Kayla Pawlewicz (seven kills) on the front line.
A night later, Chittenango visited Phoenix and had a far different result, earning a four-game victory over the Firebirds.
Chittenango zoomed to a 2-0 lead in games when it won the opener 25-21 and the second game 25-18. Phoenix would avert a sweep by claiming the third game 26-24, but the Bears rolled through the fourth game 25-17.
Rachel Antelmi served up 11 aces, to go with four kills. Brittney Tirabassi earned seven aces, five kills and six assists, while Kelsey Pudney got nine assists. Mackenzie Jones stepped up for seven kills.
