Continuing to roll through early-season foes, the Canastota girls volleyball team easily handled Morrisville-Eaton last Wednesday night in a 25-12, 25-10, 25-14 sweep.
Jessica Patterelli again led the Raiders’ effort, mixing up 11 assists, 11 digs, two kills and two aces. Jessica DeNova had a team-best six kills, while Denae Rinaldo added five kills and eight digs. Chelsea Backus picked up six digs. Carmella Rinaldo finished with four assists.
Two nights later, the fun continued for the Raiders against Hamilton. With a consistent and solid effort, Canastota beat the Emerald Knights in three games 25-15, 25-17, 25-16.
As Patterelli worked her way to 18 assists, DeNova and Rinaldo split the front-line duties, as DeNova had eight kills and Rinaldo finished with seven kills. Sarah Willis had five assists as Julie Willis and Rachel Swanson put up three kills apiece.
To end this busy week, Canastota went to the north country and registered some more victories in the Beaver River Tournament.
Canastota’s 25-18, 25-19, 25-13 sweep of Lowville included Patterelli earning 10 digs, 19 assists, four aces and three kills. Sarah Willis had 10 kills and 10 digs, with Backus adding 15 digs and Rinaldo picking up seven kills and 10 digs.
From there, the Raiders went on to beat Carthage 25-18, 25-17, 25-18. Backus improved her dig total to 16, but Patterelli topped that with 19 digs to back up 17 assists, seven kills and four aces. Sarah Willis chimed in with six kills and eight digs.
And to top it all off, Canastota needed just three games to dispose of Beaver River 25-18, 25-23, 25-12. Rinaldo and DeNova each finished with seven kills, providing support to Patterelli as she proved unstoppable again with15 assists, seven kills and nine digs.
Canastota went on the road again this week for a trio of matches, going to Waterville and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill before a huge battle Friday night against Mount Markham.
