Proving again that it can rule the neighborhood, the Liverpool girls swim found success during last Thursday night’s meet against Cicero-North Syracuse.
At its home –pool, the warriors prevailed in most of the head-to-head battles and put together enough points for a 99-87 victory over the Northstars.
Dominating the 200 medley relay, Brianna Capria, Kelley Yaworsky, Kaitlyn Mokay and Carly Jones posted a time of 1:56.19, beating CNS by more than seven seconds.
Of course, Jones was just beginning her big effort. In the 500 freestyle, Jones, in a time of 5:29.45, beat out CNS’s Regina LaRosa (5:35.88). And in the 100 breaststroke, Jones pulled away from Bridget Festa, winning in 1:09.77.
In all, Jones was part of four winning efforts. In the 200 freestyle relay, Jones helped Yaworsky, Becky Evangelista and Madison Sestak as they blazed to victory in 1:44.77, exactly one second better than CNS (1:45.77) at the wire.
On her own, Yaworsky proved victorious in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.51, with the Northstars’ Katherine Blidy (1:05.09) a distant second.
Liverpool based its victory on sweeping the relays. To close it out, in the 400 freestyle, Capria, Evangelista, Sestak and Renee Stromski combined to finish in 3:58.97, way ahead of CNS (4:12.45) at the wire.
CNS, in defeat, had a pair of double winners. Nicole Blidy swept the sprints, taking the 50 freestyle in 26.38 seconds to edge out Yaworski (26.41 seconds) at the wall, then won the 100 freestyle in 56.79 seconds as Evangelista (57.17 seconds) finished close behind.
Meanwhile, Christina Champagne found herself taking the 200 individual medley in 2:24.94, with Sestak second in 2:27.40. She returned to sweep through the 100 backstroke in 1:05.40, as Kaitlyn Mokay (1:08.32) gave the Warriors a runner-up effort.
And on the diving board, CNS earned a 1-2 finish, as Erick Ruffrage piled up 211.60 points and Christina Daino finished second, with 185.05 points.
