Both Solvay Union Free School and Westhill Central School districts are in good standing with the state and federal education systems, according to New York State school report cards for the 2006-07 school year.
Recently released report cards for districts across the state graded both Solvay and Westhill as in good standing and making adequate yearly progress (AYP) in English Language Arts, Math, Science and graduation rates.
Westhill district enrollment decreased for the second consecutive year – total enrollment for the district was 2,006 students last year, down from 2,016 the previous year. Average class size at Westhill was 20 students, and 5% of the student body was eligible for free lunch.
Enrollment in the Solvay district also fell last year, down to 1,693 from 1,704 students enrolled in the 2005-06 school year. Enrollment at Solvay is down 100 students from the 2004-05 school year. Average class size in the Solvay district is 20 students, with 31% of students eligible for free lunch.
