Camillus police apprehended a suspect last week after a car chase leading from Camillus to Syracuse ended with one officer in the hospital.
Donald W. Greene Jr., 53, of 1606 First North St. in Syracuse, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and three counts of petit larceny. Greene was allegedly involved in nine larcenies involving retail establishments along West Genesee Street within the last two weeks.
On Tuesday, June 10 around 8:30 p.m. Camillus police were alerted by a witness to a man fleeing with stolen property in the parking lot of Camillus Commons. The witness called 911 and proceeded to follow the suspect until he began driving recklessly on West Genesee Street.
Police attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle as it entered Rte. 5. The vehicle, operated by Greene, failed to stop and entered the city of Syracuse.
Greene’s vehicle collided with the marked Camillus Police Department vehicle operated by Sergeant Daniel Burlingame. Burlingame was taken to University Hospital and treated for minor injuries and released.
Greene was arrested and remanded to the Justice Center in lieu of $50,000 cash or $50,000 bail bond.
Camillus Police Chief Thomas Winn said Wednesday the two cruisers involved in the collision were being repaired.
