Backing up what it had done in a month of regular-season action, the Skaneateles girls track and field team swept through the field during last Wednesday’s OHSL Liberty division championship meet in Skaneateles.
All the Lakers did was accumulate 156 points, well clear of runner-up Christian Brothers Academy (111 points) in second place as Jordan-Elbridge (102 points) finished third.
Rachel Hosie set a winning tone, as she beat the field in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:54.90, nearly 10 seconds clear of the field. She also claimed first place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:38.11 as, once again, J-E’s Nicole Darling finished a distant second.
Christie Barnett, who won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.86, teamed with Christina Homeyer, Beatrice Walton and Carly Strods to win that event in 10:01.81.
Skaneateles, in fact, nearly swept the relays. Walton returned to team with Julie Dmochowski, Alexis Mazzeo and Eileen Ford to win the 4×400 in 4:48.16, while Nina Davidson, Victoria Sakal, Carley Baulick and Stephanie Wisniewski ran the 4×100 in 53.05 seconds, just behind CBA (52.26 seconds) at the wire.
Grace Van der Ven joined in by winning the 800-meter run in 2:20.29 as Homeyer (2:31.50) finished fourth. Taylor Wellington (8:34.98) and Corey Chapin (8:39.63) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Sakal, on her own, was second in the 100-meter dash (13.14 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (27.27 seconds), while Dmochowski took second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.74) and Ford (1:02.48) got third place.
Caroline Walton highlighted the Lakers’ effort in field events, throwing the discus 86 feet to beat the field by more than four feet. She also was fourth (29 feet 4 inches) in the shot put.
Dmochowski took second in the long jump (15 feet 3 inches) and Van der Ven earned fourth place (14 feet 8 1/2 inches), with Ford adding a third-place triple jump of 30 feet 8 inches. Madison Eckles cleared 7 feet 6 inches for fifth in the pole vault.
