With the trio of Chris Stogsdill, Matt Weeks and Mike Quercia on hand, the Marcellus boys track and field team took charge in its rivalry against Skaneateles.
All Stogsdill, Weeks and Quercia did was win nine events between them in the course of the Mustangs’ 99-41 victory over the Lakers, and Marcellus also blended in a 99-42 victory over Jordan-Elbridge for good measure.
For Stogsdill, the fun began with a modest mile time of 4:42.3, but he really hit stride in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:56.9, the best Section III time of the season, and also taking the 3,200-meter run in 10:24.7.
As for Weeks, he needed 15.9 seconds to win the 110-meter high hurdles and won the 400 hurdles in 1:00.1 before winning the triple jump, going 38 feet 11 inches.
Quercia did his usual work in the sprints, as he won the 100-meter dash in 11 seconds flat and ran the 200-meter dash in 22.3 seconds, his best of the season. Also, in the high jump, Quercia prevailed by clearing 5 feet 6 inches.
Mracellus won two of the three relays, as Stogsdill, Tom Riccardi, Kyle Blackmer and Jesse Garn ran the 4×800 in 8:46.1 and Quercia helped Sam Schneider, Taylor Carlic and Kevin Daily win the 4×100 in 45.9 seconds. Dan Knickerbocker cleared 10 feet 6 inches in the pole vault as Zach Wiley won the shot put with a toss of 39 feet 4 inches.
The girls meet at Skaneateles went in the Lakers’ favor, though, as it rolled past Marcellus 114-27 and also beat J-E 98-42 despite Katie Darling’s big show on the Eagles’ behalf.
Christie Barnett gave the Lakers a win in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.9 seconds) and held off J-E’s Lyndsay Hollis, 1:07.6 to 1:07.8, in the 400 hurdles. Victoria Sakal took the 100-meter dash (13.1 seconds) as Julie Dmochowski prevailed at 400 meters in 1:01.1.
Skaneateles swept all three of the distance races, too, with Rachel Hosie taking both the 1,500-meter run (5:01.1) and 3,000-meter run (11:17.3) and Grace Van der Ven running 800 meters in 2:28.2.
Sweeping all three relay races, the Lakers had Sakal, Cassie Berg, Carley Baulick and Nina Davidson take the 4×100 in 54.2 seconds, while Dmochowski and Barnett helped Alexis Mazzeo and Eileen Ford win the 4×400 in 4:14.7. In the 4×800, Ford, Carley Strods, Christina Homeyer and Beatrice Walton earned first place in 10:19.
Ellen Meyer helped Skaneateles with wins in the shot put (29 feet 1 inch) and discus (97 feet), while Gabby Eckles cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump and Madison Eckles won the pole vault by topping 8 feet.
In defeat, J-E’s Darling won three events, posting the best Section III long jump of the season (17 feet 1 1/2 inches), and also taking the triple jump (31 feet 11 inches) and 200-meter dash in 26.8 seconds.
