Nearly winning every event on the card, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys indoor track and field team smothered the field during the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays at Manley Field House on Monday night.
All told, the Northstars finished with 77 points, way more than double the total of runner-up Baldwinsville, who had 31 points to lead a crowded pack where Mexico (27 points) beat Liverpool (24) and Tully (21) for the third spot.
CNS won five times, owning the sprints. Tony Rogers, Ben Brown, Devin Young and Vince St. James got together and won the 4×200 relay by inches over B’ville, 1:35.38 to 1:35.50.
Young and St. James helped Jeff Azzoto and Nathan MacNabb win the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 3:39.80, beating the Bees (3:45.80) by exactly six seconds.
Ty Howington was the fastest individual in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.37 seconds and helped Keenan Williams produced a victory with a combined total of 17.39 seconds, with Liverpool (17.54 seconds) a close second.
Rogers came back in the 4×400 relay to help Mike Flume, Jake Whritenour and Brandon Marlow win in another photo finish, it clocking of 3:37.91 just ahead of Mexico (3:38.16) at the line.
In field events, Andy Kahl cleared 6 feet 8 inches in the high jump, teaming with Devin Mertens for the title as they went 12 feet 6 inches in all. Kahl also had the best triple jump of 43 feet 1/2 inch as he and Mertens got second with 79 feet 6 inches.
Craig Barber (12 feet) and Tony Mitton teamed for second in the pole vault (total of 21 feet 6 inches), while Richie Lickfield and Dan Minahan combined for third (87 feet 10 1/2 inches) in the shot put. CNS was also fourth in the 4×1,600 relay (19:32.77) and sixth in the 4×800 (8:52.48).
CNS also was strong in the girls Kirschenheiter meet, finishing second with 42 points as Liverpool (68 points) won again.
Most of those points came from a quartet of victories. McKaye Neumeister and Alana Hotchkiss combined to win the triple jump with 65 feet 4 inches as Neumeister (33 feet 7 inches) went further than anyone in the field.
Jasmine Thompson was the top individual in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.16 seconds, combining with Monique Roberts (19.03 seconds) for that title. Roberts, Hotchkiss, Neumeister and Lauren Spink combined in a sprint medley relay classic where, in a time of 4:21.37, it beat Liverpool (4:21.51) by inches.
In other events, the Northstars were fourth in the shot put (57 feet 9 3/4 inches), third in the pole vault (8 feet) and fifth in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.10.
