For the first time this winter, the Liverpool girls indoor track and field team went full-bore against one of its biggest rivals — and still came out on top, like it had throughout its opening meets in December.
Returning to Manley Field House for the Jack Morse Relays, the Warriors won the event with 62.33 points, withstanding the domination of distance races by Fayetteville-Manlius, who was second with 53 points as Baldwinsville (36 points) took third place.
Liverpool still prevailed in the 55-meter hurdles, where Janeeka Benson (8.80 seconds) won among individuals and Emily Coldren (third) helped out, as they combined for 18.36 seconds to claim that event.
Benson and Coldren also teamed with Wanetta Rodney and Nikki Liadka to dominate the 4×200 relay, winning in a time of 1:49.98, more than four seconds ahead of runner-up Jordan-Elbridge.
Emily Chen and Sara Rothenberg (16 feet 6 inches) teamed up to dominate the pole vault, as Jenn Culp (second) and Kaci Williams (sixth) combined for a runner-up finish in the shot put, the distances adding up to 59 feet 4 1/4 inches.
On the track, as F-M won four times, Ashley Warren, Trina Bills, Armani Moore and Jasmine Hines got second in the 1,600 sprint medley (4:37.76). Liverpool was also fourth in both the 4×800 relay (10:26.20) and 4×400 relay (4:30.35) with Liadka, Jennifer VanderMeulen, Hannah Anthes, Skye Borasky, Stacy Murphy, Naomi Bloomingdale, Miranda McConnell and Sarah Putman all involved.
The Warriors tied for fourth in the high jump and were fourth alone in the high jump as Moore, Rodney, Jennifer Mackenzie and Marit Schwarz participated. Bills, Brigid Heenan, Laura Nicolais and Lesley Bowers got fifth (13:34.46) in the distance medley relay.
Liverpool came close to the boys championship, too, finishing with 46 points, a number only Cicero-North Syracuse (68 points) could better.
Fred Shattell, Tommy Piraino, Ethan Hickey and Bryan Picciotto combined to win the 4×800 relay in a time of 8:39.44. Hickey and Picciotto also helped Colin Savage and Kevin Harper prevail in the distance medley relay in 10:51.43.
Corey Brundage and Joe Spernyak worked together and won the 55-meter hurdles, with Brundage second among individuals (8.37 seconds) as he and Spernyak had a time of 17.64 seconds.
Savage, Harper, Shattell and Justin Albro were fourth (3:48.30) in the 4×400 relay, as Pat Single and Sopual Khan combined for fourth in the shot put (82 fee 5 1/2 inches). Demetrius Pace and Chris Earle shared third place (11 feet) in the high jump.
