BALDWINSVILLE – After a string of consecutive victories to open its season, the Baldwinsville boys bowling team finally got caught.
It first happened on Feb. 2, when against Fayetteville-Manlius, a team it swept on Jan. 14, the Bees this time were on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision.
Dawson Bigtree led B’ville, improving each game until a 227 finale put him at 621 overall. No one else got above 600, though, as Eric Hildreth had a 593 series and Dylan Love produced a 579 series. Tanner Rozcyzko could only manage a 542, one pin behind the 543 series from Luke Marketta.
On F-M’s side, Adam Koss shot a 626 series at Green Lakes, followed closely by the 623 set from Michael Nanno as Ryan Yenny produced a three-game total of 602 and John Jeffery, helped by a third-game 244, earned a 592 series.
Then, in last Monday’s match against Oswego, the Bees took another 2-1 defeat to the Buccaneers despite a consistent effort from its top four bowlers.
Thomas Gaughan led B’ville with a 612 series that included games of 216, 189 and 207. Love’s 223 game opened a 605 series, just ahead of Rozyczko’s 604 set which featured a 215 first game.
Hildreth shot the best game of the day for the Bees, a 244, on his way to a 591 set. To lead Oswego, Eric Carson shot games of 210, 232 and 201 on his way to a 643 series, helped by Kyle Rice (566 series) and Ryan Engler (526 series).
A day later, B’ville’s boys rebounded with a 3-0 shutout of Syracuse where, once more, Rozcyzko went to the forefront, his games of 224, 212 and 233 part of a 669 series.
Hildreth opened with a 220 on his way to a 570 series. Love had two games of 258 and 190, while Robert Smith got his turn and flourished with games of 221 and 259. Bigtree concluded with a 214 and Spencer Wagner had a 198.
B’ville’s girls team remained undefeated, claiming its 12th consecutive win when it trounced Syracuse by that same 3-0 margin, led by Jenna Speich, whose games of 179, 200 and 218 led to a 597 series.
Julia Speich was close behind, blazing to a 265 in her second game with 10 strikes during a 590 set. Lauren Gulich’s steady 190, 186 and 185 produced a three-game total of 561 as Amelia Ponto started with a 213 and finished with a 555 series.
Bowling again on Wednesday, B’ville swept Auburn in a pair of 3-0 matches, the girls having Ponto get close to perfection in an opening-game 269 that led to a 655 series.
Meanwhile, Julia Speich, starting with a 229, produced a three-game total of 603, just ahead of Hass, who closed with a 234 as part of a 595 series as Jenna Speich got a 537 series.
The boys match featured Rozyczko making his own run at a 300 in his second game, eventually getting a 279 and a third-game 234 as part of a 695 series.
Hildreth, who shot 239 in his second game, finished with a 619 total as Love earned a 608 series. Marketta started with a 219 on his way to a 594 total.
When B’ville swept Liverpool 3-0 on Thursday, Rozyczko put together a 656 series with games of 234 and 232, just ahead of Love’s 652 set that had three games of 225, 219 and 208.
Bigtree earned a three-game total of 600, with Marketta’s 225 kicking off a 595 series as Hildreth posted a 567 set, all of it overcoming a 706 series from Liverpool’s Brandon Davis at Flamingo Lanes.
This busy week ended with B’ville sweeping Cortland, with Ponto closing her 625 series helped by games of 230 and 207 as Elizabeth Hildreth shot 202 and 198 in her 572 series and Hass got a 201 in her 543 set. The boys 3-0 win included Bigtree producing a 614 series from games of 201, 200 and 213.
