Every single player on the Bishop Grimes girls basketball team remembered that Pulaski put a quick end to the Cobras’ post-season run last winter.
So when Grimes faced the Blue Devils Tuesday night for the first time since that Section III Class C-1 quarterfinal encounter, it never was close. The highly-motivated Cobras delighted the home fans by beating Pulaski 53-26.
Over the course of the first three periods, Pulaski hardly had time to move against the deep, athletic Grimes defense, who forced all kinds of turnovers and bad passes.
The game started 11-0 in the Cobras’ favor, and kept building from there.
Meanwhile, on the offensive end, eight different Cobra players scored. Cady Kalemba led that group with 12 points, while Amelia Heiselman earned nine points and seven assists.
Brooke Bonacci had eight points. Amanda Marcely threw in six points and controlled the boards with a team-best nine rebounds. Tenley Pitonzo had five points and five rebounds.
Grimes will host its annual Holiday Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, with three other private-school opponents — Watertown IHC, Rome Catholic and Utica-Notre Dame — in the field as well. Games start each day at 3 p.m. (JV) and 6:15 (varsity).
