Pointing toward this Friday’s rematch with Fayetteville-Manlius, the Baldwinsville girls soccer team played four times in a span of six days, and could not win them all.
New Hartford, who had established itself as a force early this season with some eye-popping goal totals, came to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium last Wednesday night and knocked off the Bees 1-0.
On the way to a 5-0 start, the Spartans had scored 25 times in its first two games and had, in all, outscored foes 37-1, including a 5-1 romp over long-time power Marcellus on Oct. 13.
Here, B’ville would not allow New Hartford to dictate terms, even after the Spartans got on the board early in the first half with a Willa Pratt goal assisted by Anna Rayhill.
Jenna Boutilier stopped everything else, finishing with 10 saves, and B’ville would get a whole lot of time to equalize, yet could not do so, all nine of its shots scooped up by New Hartford goalie Mia Allen.
This busy stretch began last Monday night, at West Genesee. Against a Wildcats team it beat 3-0 in the Oct. 2 season opener, the Bees dominated possession and wore the opposing defense down to prevail again, this time 3-1.
Barely eight minutes into the game, Hannah Mimas converted off Jozlyn Dolan’s corner kick. It stayed that way until Dolan converted 1:06 into the second half.
Mimas, who assisted on that second goal, found the net again to make it 3-0, and though Claire McManus scored late for WG, most of the game was played in the Wildcats’ end, goalies Cameron Rosenthal and Zoe Orr combining for 21 saves.
After the loss to New Hartford, B’ville had to turn around and, on Friday, face Liverpool, who despite its 1-5-1 record had just played F-M to a 1-1 draw earlier in the week.
Like with West Genesee, the Bees had beaten the Warriors 3-0 earlier this season, but thanks to Mimas it would fare even better in the rematch, a 4-0 decision.
Most of the first half was scoreless, but in the 34th minute Mimas, from 25 yards out, flung a shot past Warriors goalie Mikayla Parry.
For the night, Parry had 15 saves, but she couldn’t keep Mimas from flying in on a breakaway early in the second half and making it 2-0 and then returning a few minutes later to get the hat trick, plus a fourth goal with six minutes left.
Then the Bees roared past Oswego 6-0 on Saturday, scoring three times in a 10-minute span of the first half as McKenna Miller put B’ville on the board and, less than a minute apart, Mimas and Liana Mostrianska also converted.
Mostrianska hit on her second goal in the 53rd minute, with Mimas twice finding the net late in the game to record yet another hat trick and move her season total to 16.
Having improved to 7-2 overall, B’ville would look to avenge its 2-0 defeat to Fayetteville-Manlius on Friday, with the Hornets having gone 1-2-1 in recent weeks, including losses to East Syracuse Minoa and Cicero-North Syracuse.
