In order to protect the health and safety of the community, the Town of DeWitt 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be a virtual event. Only participants and officials will be on site at Town Hall for this event, beginning at 6pm on Friday, September 11th.
“We continue to be mindful of the health dangers of the COVID-19 virus – and also respectful of all those who have lost their lives to the virus – so we made the decision to create a virtual event for our 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony,” commented Town of DeWitt Supervisor Ed Michalenko.
Chief Chase Bilodeau will make introductory remarks and the welcome, the Star Spangled Banner will be sung by Dominick Cambareri and the 174th Air Honor Guard will perform the posting of the colors. The pledge of allegiance will be led by Jamesville-DeWitt High School student, Will Quackenbush, with the invocation by Father Lester Smith of St. John’s Church.
Guest speaker is Francis Conole. Town Board member Joe Chiarenza will make a brief presentation and thank you. The Town of DeWitt Honor Guard will perform the rifle salute, taps will be performed by Dan Andrianos, and Jack Heines is performing on the bagpipes. Onondaga County Sheriff Gene Conway will make closing remarks.
Residents can view the ceremony from their homes via the Town of DeWitt Facebook live stream; the live stream can be found at https://www.facebook.com/TownofDeWittNY/ and a recording will be available after the ceremony has concluded.
