True, the deed occurred more than two months ago, but the Cazenovia girls volleyball team had not forgotten it.
Way back on Nov. 21, the Lakers launched its defense of the Section III Class B championship by making a visit to Skaneateles — and losing.
All season long, Cazenovia had remembered that slight. So when Skaneateles showed up for the rematch at Buckley Gym last Thursday night, it was a far different results, as the hosts pulled off a three-game sweep.
Each of the games was tight, but when it mattered, the eastern Lakers came through. It won the first game 25-21, then claimed the second game 25-22 and, to cap it off, beat the western Lakers 25-22 in the third game.
Up front, Abby Cordes and Kathy Groetz each finished with eight kills, with Julie Gregg adding even more depth by earning six kills. Alissa Easterly had 12 assists, two kills and two aces, as Cordes helped out with nine assists.
For Skaneateles, Brittany Bird pulled off 13 assists, three kills and three blocks, and Krissy Ryan led the front line with seven kills and five blocks.
After trips to Fulton and Westhill this week, Cazenovia (13-3) concludes its regular season Monday with its biggest rival, Marcellus, visiting Buckley Gym.
