Going into Saturday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty/National tournament at Homer, the Marcellus wrestling team has to be considered a favorite.
The Mustangs have not lost a head-to-head match against any OHSL foe, including last Wednesday night’s 77-7 romp over the combined APW/Pulaski squad.
Of the first five bouts on the card, only one was contested, at 99 pounds, where Colin Scherer managed a pin over Ronnie Dupont in two minutes, nine seconds.
Ryan Moses, at 132 pounds, got a 15-0 technical fall over Alex Currie, but each of the Mustangs’ other five mat victories came through pins.

Zach Grolling, at 170 pounds, pinned Jaiden Harrington in 70 seconds before a 182-pound bout where Paul Okham finished off Mike Kinney in35 seconds.

As for Jordan-Elbridge, it struggled in last Wednesday’s bout against traditional Class AA power Baldwinsville, the Eagles taking a 62-12 loss to the Bees.
Jared Lawrence won the opening bout at 220 when he pinned Jacob Mitts in 54 seconds, but B’ville claimed every other bout other than a forfeit to Raiden Yale at 170.
Still, a couple of the contests were close, including 120, where Christian Mathews fell 5-2 to Mason Clark, and 126, where Nolan Jackson had a 6-4 defeat to Max Naples as Bryan Tanner (113) lost 12-6 to Aidan Cali.
Facing Oneida on Friday night, J-E was able to again turn things around, defeating the Indians 54-30.
Zach Hill opened at 170 with a 66-second pin over Dan Bartley as Lawrence took 61 seconds to pin Dyllan Delariva before forfeits to Tanner, Mathews and Madyn LaFleur (99 pounds).
