Head-to-head against its two major rivals, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team got the best of it and emerged victorious from Saturday’s morning session of the John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
With a total of 109 points, the Bees finished comfortably in front of Liverpool, who was second with 81 points, and Cicero-North Syracuse, who was third with 74 points.
Connor Waldron, in 37.27 seconds, went 1-2 with Sam Mellinger (38.24) in the 300-meter dash, and that pair joined David Mahar and Kenneth Svitak to win the 4×200 relay in 1:36.58.
Jack Michaels won the individual 1,600-meter run in 4:36.97, taking second on the team side with Nate Hludzenski with 9:52.27 as Colin Delaney beat the field in the 1,000-meter run in 2:45.22 and claimed the team event with James Carey in 5:40.09.
Adam Graham and Steven Miller swept the top spots in the shot put, Miller throwing it 40 feet 2 1/4 inches and Miller going 39’5 1/2″. Then Miller, with a weight throw of 46’1″, beat out Alex Boak’s second-place 44’9″.
Mellinger and David Mahar got second place in the 55-meter dash in 13.81 seconds, with Mellinger second (6.77) among individuals. In the 4×400, Quinn Peters, Aidan Priest, Aiden Kosoltecki and Robert Thompson finished second in 3:55.73 as Connor Waldron, Garrett Petelli, Owen Weaver and Colin Delaney were third in the 4×800 relay in 8:54.23.
Priest, who cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, and Max Bozzuto were third in the triple jump with combined leaps of 68’7 1/4″ as Owen Weaver and Bradford Doubleday topped 10’9″ in the high jump. Solomon Holden-Betts and Ryan Foley were fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 22:40.80, with Tom Hagopian and Tom Bernardin fifth (20.39 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles.
B’ville’s girls team also had a strong showing at the Arcaro meet, with 88 points to finish third as C-NS (109 points) edged Liverpool (105 points) for the top spot.
Karen Ekure, second in the individual 55 sprint in 7.51 seconds, got second in the team event with Rachael Pawelek in 15.67 seconds, but with Lauren Addario won the 300 sprint team event in 1:29.69. Addario, Ekure, Courtney Bostic and Carlie Desimone were second in the 4×200 relay in 1:52.57.
Addario beat the field in the triple jump with 35’2 1/4″, second in the team portion with Allyson Surowick going 66’5 1/4″. Surowick had a second-place long jump of 15’9″ and was second in the team portion with Bostic, going 26’11 1/4″. Lauren Shaler and Sarah Smiley were second in the weight throw with total distance of 61 feet.
Sage Springsteen and Annabelle Horan were second in the 3,000-meter run in 26:20.42 as Anna Conklin, Lily Horan, Kathryn Nice and Olivia Creelman were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 11:03.16, the Bees also fourth in the 4×400 in 4:36.88.
Ella Smith, clearing 7’6″, got fourth-place points in the pole vault. Surowick and Natalia Munson finished fifth in the 55 hurdles in 21.31 seconds, with Anna Conklin and Mary Roach fifth in the 1,000. Nice and Madison Kennedy were fifth in the 600-meter run..
