Even with its Dec. 18 showdown against Liverpool postponed by a winter snowstorm, the Baldwinsville wrestling team still had mat action prior to the holiday break.
The Bees traveled to Corning last Saturday for the Greg Partridge Memorial Duals, where it finished fifth in a 10-team field with a record of 3-2.
B’ville started wiith a 55-27 loss to Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville and fell again 57-21 to Canisteo-Greenwood, the eventual tournament champions.
Against BGAH, Keagan Hayes earned his team’s lone mat win at 106 pounds, beating Kenyon Pickens 5-3 in overtime. The match with CG included pins for Kaylob Deyo (138 pounds) and Fred Pickard (195 pounds) along with Naseim Perez (285 pounds) topping Jacob Mullen 5-2.
Bouncing back, the Bees won 54-34 over Dryden, nearly got a shutout against Maspeth in a 72-3 decision and closed out the tournament with a 63-18 romp over the host Corning Hawks.
Though mostly helped by forfeits against Dryden, Mike Kral (195 pounds) did pin Nate Hollenbeck in 3:29 and got another pin against Maspeth, joining Hayes, Jacob Mitts (220 pounds) and Mason Clark (120 pounds) in earning falls. Max Naples added a 7-1 decision over Kalo Shuke at 126 pounds.
To wrap it up against Corning, Clark and Deyo (this time at 132 pounds) earned pins, with Kral making it three wins in a row by routing Damien Vanetten 12-2.
B’ville would practice and rest through much of the next two weeks, and will resume its season on Jan. 4 when it goes to Canastota for the Fallen Heroes Tournament.
