To the editor:
Clay Town Hall is one of only six early voting sites in Onondaga County, and the only one close to northern county voters. Therefore, it is very disconcerting that the Clay Town Board and highway department would choose this week to repave the Clay Town Hall parking lot, making access to voting difficult. The town of Clay has known for months that early voting would occur this week at their town hall.
When the Cicero Democratic Committee discovered this activity this morning and notified the Board of Elections that repaving was starting today, they were shocked to learn of it as they had not been previously notified.
Either the powers that be in the town of Clay are deliberately attempting to disenfranchise voters or they have displayed gross incompetence in choosing to pave the lot during early voting without notifying the Board of Elections.
We call upon Clay town officials to find an alternate parking solution for the voters or simply delay this repaving until voting concludes.
