One week is left in the area girls soccer regular season, with Jamesville-DeWitt poised to go after an 11th straight Section III Class A title and bent on getting the state championship that has long eluded them.
J-D began last week’s efforts by going to Oswego last Monday and again pouring on the goals in an 8-0 romp over the Buccaneers.
Lucja Linder joined Tonia Kousmanidis and Megan Baker as they each scored twice, Baker adding an assist. Sydney Baker and Sydney Balotin earned the other goals, with Grace Dimkopoulos and Ava Brazie earning one assist apiece.
Back home Thursday to face Auburn, J-D only managed half the production as in the Oswego game, but still got a 4-0 shutout of the Maroons.
Once again, Megan Baker notched two goals, this time with Kousmanidis and Sydney Baker earning the other goals as Brazie, an anchor of the Rams’ defense, contributed an assist.
East Syracuse Minoa got its turn last Tuesday against the same Central Square team that stunned J-D in overtime late in September. Once more, it would go beyond regulation and, once more, the Redhawks conquered it, beating the Spartans 2-1.
Gianna Coccagnia’s first-half goal put ESM on the board, but state Class A no. 7-ranked Central S quare pulled back even as Emma Herrmann converted.
They stayed 1-1 through a scoreless second half, leading it to OT, where Herrmann returned and put one past Isabelle Chavoustie to give the Redhawks the lead for good. For the night, Chavoustie produced nine saves as Central Square counterpart S Haley had 10 saves.
Then, when ESM faced Cortland on Thursday night, it again was close and again, the Spartans lost, this one a 3-2 decision.
Bella Pickard and Hannah Ciwkla earned ESM’s goals, with assists to Coccagnia and Jenna Hudgins. Cortland won, though, as Tori Cruz led the Purple Tigers by scoring twice and assisting on Lillian Quick’s goal.
Christian Brothers Academy had found some good form late in September, and earned its fifth consecutive victory last Monday night by traveling to Homer and topping the Trojans 4-1.
Up 2-0 at halftime, the Brothers kept on going as Kennedy Paciaga roared back to form, scoring twice. Gia Anthony and Tatumn Kohlbrenner earned the other goals, CBA ultimately taking 18 shots to Homer’s five.
Going for six in a row Saturday against Skaneateles, the Brothers did not quite pull it off, ending in a 1-1 draw as Paciaga’s first-half goal, assisted by Kohlbrenner, was answered by a second-half tally from the Lakers’ Maddy Ramsgard.
As for Manlius-Pebble Hill and Bishop Grimes, the Trojans were upended 5-1 by Onondaga last Tuesday, with the lone goal from Katherine Mezzalingua as Cassidy Field scored twice for the Tigers, with Lauren Myer and Avi Baker each getting one goal and one assist.
A rematch with OCS on Friday was more lopsided, MPH taking a 6-0 defeat, this time with Baker netting two goals to lead a well-balanced Tigers attack.
Grimes met Cato-Meridian late in the week and beat the Blue Devils 3-0 with all of the goals in the first half, one each by Kate Murphy, Jenna Sloan and Isabella Macro.
