On Tuesday night, it is time for a local clash in girls swimming as Skaneateles hosts West Genesee at the Community Center YMCA, but both were busy in the week leading up to it.
Skaneateles had a three-team meet last Tuesday at Rome Free Academy, where the Lakers defeated both the host Black Knights 100-84 while also topping West Canada Valley 90-63 to improve to 7-3 on the season
The trio of Lily Buchholz, Elizabeth Springer and Lili Winkelman won two races apiece against RFA, with Buchholz going two minutes, 4.35 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and handling the 100 backstroke in 1:04.31.
Springer was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 26.65 seconds and completed a sprint sweep by winning the 100 freestyle in 59.68 seconds. Winkelman was first in the 500 freestyle in 5:59.42 and then swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.79.
Grace King swam the 200 individual medley in 2:32.67for a second-place finish, but then won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.93 as Lexis Cottrill (198.00 points) edged Carlee Pitman (196.40) for second place in diving.
Amelia Musso joined King, Winkelman and Buchholz to take the 200 medley relay in 2:02.55. It was Caitlin Comer helping Musso, Winkelman and Springer to get the 200 freestyle relay in 1:54.05 as Buchholz, Springer, King and Comer went 4:05.04 in the 400 freestyle relay.
West Genesee hosted Jamesville-DeWitt last Thursday night, and the Red Rams, a consistent program through the years, got another victory here, moving past the Wildcats 91-80.
Still, WG claimed a trio of individual races, starting with Adriana Gill going 2:37.56 to win the 200 IM over J-D’s Lucy Heflin (2:40.12) as Taylor McFadden was first in the 100 butterfly in 1:10.87. Allison Putnam was victorious in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.43.
McFadden added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:13.84, just behind the Rams’ Claire Huyck (2:12.46) as Anna Ivery was second in the 50 freestyle, Victoria Senus second in the 500 freestyle and Maggie Smith second (1:11.73) to J-D’s Sofia Bebla (1:09.97) in the 100 backstroke.
Gill swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.61 before Smith, Senus, Putnam and Hannah Murdock paired up to get first place in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.59. Emily Ninestein led J-D with wins in the 50 and 500 freestyle.
This followed a 94-74 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy two nights earlier at Le Moyne College, where WG had Putnam finish second in the 200 and 500freestyle. Murdock was runner-up in the 50 and 100 freestyle. McFadden took second place in the 100 butterfly.
