While the Baldwinsville field hockey team has plenty of challenges in front of them the rest of the season, none is bigger than the inability to put shots in the net.
That problem emerged again in Monday’s match against Liverpool at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium as a Warriors team the Bees, trying to climb back to the .500 mark, handled earlier in the season turned things around and knocked off B’ville 1-0.
It was quite a changed rom their first encounter Sept. 9 at LHS Stadium, which B’ville claimed 4-1. Defensive adjustments and a much better end-to-end effort helped the Warriors in the rematch.
Though it was playing defense most of the way, Liverpool made a rare attack pay off in the first half when Emily Haskins, off a feed from Riley Techmanski, put a shot past B’ville goalie Sara Smiley.
All through the rest of the half, plus the entire second half, the Warriors turned back all of the Bees’ attempts to pull even, goalie McKenna Ecker stopping all six shots she faced.
If there was any good to emerge from this game, it was that B’ville, with a 5-7 record, would get a full week to rest, get injured players healthy and practice until returning to action next Tuesday against East Syracuse Minoa.
From there, the Bees’ last four regular-season games would all take place in an eight-day stretch as trips to Fayetteville-Manlius and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill follow the ESM game and precede an Oct. 15 finale against Vestal.
