On Thursday night, the boys soccer teams from Cazenovia and Chittenango, each off to strong starts in 2019, will settle neighborhood bragging rights on the Bears’ home turf.\
In last week’s action, the Lakers claimed two of three games, first putting together a superb all-around effort in last Monday’s game against Christian Brothers Academy at the Sean Googin Sports Complex, rolling to a 3-1 victory over the Brothers.
A first-half shutout featured aLakers defense that frustrated CBA, and would continue to do so even as the Brothers got on the board late, Ethan Baker stopping everything else as he had seven saves.
Joe Spires poured in a pair of goals, with Brian Pezzi getting the other goal. Brody Coleman and Gannon Houghton finished with one assist apiece.
Cazenovia went to Solvay on Wednesday night and enjoyed one of its most productive efforts of the season, having six different goal-scorers in a 7-2 romp over the Bearcats.
Only Spires scored twice, with single goals going to Pezzi, Bryan Roca, Shaun Zampetti, Aiden Emhoff and Eli Gifford. Three others – Houghton, Jacob Scherrer and Max Michael – earned assists.
Back home to face Whitesboro on Friday night, the Lakers never got going in a 3-0 defeat to the Warriors. Jacob Tardugno’s pair of goals paced Whitesboro as Jacob Sherline had one goal and one assist, overcoming eight saves by Baker.
As for Chittenango, it handled visiting Solvay 5-0 last Monday night, the Bears humbling the Bearcats by scoring four times in the second half to pull away.
Those five goals came from five Chittenango players – Sean Larsson, Tom McIntosh, Mikel Pascual, Arthur Paul and Austin Strickler – with Paul getting two assists. McIntosh, Pascual and Aiden Adams had one assist apiece.
Chittenango went to Mexico on Wednesday night and found out just how much the Tigers had improved this fall, the Bears only managing a 2-2 draw.
Larsson and Paul scored for Chittenango, with Pascual getting an assist. Mexico countered with goals by Eric Hyde and Ayden Jensen, with Josh Hadcock earning seven saves to match the total of Will Simmons.
A day later, hosting Camden, the Bears matched its total from the Solvay game and handled the Blue Devils 5-1, improving its overall record to 7-2-1 as it would meet Homer Tuesday before Cazenovia’s visit.
