Now the cross country teams of Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse would, in consecutive weeks, take their shots against the most dominant program in New York State.
C-NS would go first, meeting F-M at Oneida Shores Wednesday afternoon, and got a few more points on the boys end, though it still lost 18-41 in that race and 16-43 in the girls race.
R.J. Davis led the C-NS boys as, in 16 minutes, 57.7 seconds, he claimed fifth place behind an F-M quartet led by Geoff Howles, who won in 16:04.5 to beat out Peyton Geehrer, Sam Otis and James Peden.
Then Matt LeClair got sixth place overall in 17:08.6, while Josh Koeppe took eighth place in 17;33.3. Evan Romano posted 17:43.8 ahead of Zach Bergman (17:45.1), Evan Breitbeck (17:50.2) and Evan Nobles (18:20.5).
When C-NS girls star Kate Putman raced against F-M, she posted 18:56 flat, but four Hornets beat her, led by Claire Walters, who tore to victory in 17:47.9, more than half a minute ahead of Phoebe White’s 18:19.8.
Allison Newton had a strong race, getting to seventh place in 19:55.1, with Marissa Navarra ninth in 20:22.1 and Gabby Putman 10th in 20:23.5. Hannah Reichard, in 20:48.1, beat out Abbee Norris (20:51.8) and Morgan Kingdeski (20:52.0).
While this was going on, Liverpool was at Camillus Middle School, earning a sweep of West Genesee as the state Class A no. 5-ranked girls Warriors got a top-five sweep in a 15-46 victory and the boys topped the Wildcats 23-38.
Jenna Schulz tore to a time of 19:03 in the girls race, more than a minute ahead of the 20:05 from Sydney Carlson.
Gabby McCarthy was third in 21:04, edging out Eva Woodworth (21:05) and Bella Brancato (21:06) for that spot. Addyson Graham, in 21:47, beat out Kaleigh Buck (21:51) and Charlotte Warner (21:55) for eighth place.
The closer boys race had Liverpool’s Carter Rodriguez, in 17:02, finish second to West Genesee’s Matt Bartolotta, who won in 16:39, but Jake McGowan claimed third place in 17:10.
Ethan Glashauser finished fifth in 18:02, and Ryan Hagan was sixth in 18:23 as Charlie Praschunus took seventh place in 18:47. Ryan Fennelly was eighth in 18:48, edging Chris Lewis (18:51) for that spot.
