The Museum at the Shacksboro Schoolhouse presents its 29th annual Book Sale Extravaganza this weekend. The five day event runs from Sept. 5 through 9 and features more than 10,000 hard and soft cover books sorted into 40 categories from fiction and biography to classics and cooking. Large white tents on the museum’s Canton St. grounds offer more than 2,500 square feet of shelter for this rain or shine event.
History and children’s books are especially abundant this year. In addition to books, the sale includes a huge collection of media, more than 2,000 CDs and DVDs, many of which have never been opened. An exceptionally strong selection of classical and operatic music is included. All items in the sale have been donated. The museum welcomes donations of gently used books each year from Oct. 1 until Aug. 15.
Sale hours are:
• 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5
• 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8
• 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9
New stock is continually put out as space becomes available. Admission is free. Credit cards are welcome.
This annual book sale is the major fundraiser for the Museum at the Shacksboro Schoolhouse, Baldwinsville’s local history museum. The event’s success is due to the generosity of the entire Baldwinsville community, from donors and customers and the many volunteers who prep and operate the event to Coach Carl Sanfilippo and the Baldwinsville Bees football team members who move the huge inventory into the tents each year.
Located at 46 Canton St., the museum offers changing exhibits, programming, and special events year round. Relying upon a totally volunteer staff, the facility is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. For more information call 315-638-2452 or visit shacksboromuseum.com.
