To the editor:
I would like to thank the registered voters in the Conservative and Independence parties in Lysander.
Over the past few months I’ve been knocking on your doors at the most inconvenient times, interrupting dinner plans, landscaping, housework, parties with friends. I’m so sorry, but it was on purpose! It was important that you be home so that I could meet you, chat, find common ground.
Many of you were not exactly pleased to find a Democrat at your door. However, your graciousness and open mindedness at these times was profound. You invited me into your homes, shared your gardening secrets, introduced me to your friends and family. We together proved what being a true American is all about.
We may differ in our ideas, our families may look different, but we are all together one society. We learned from each other, and we laughed together. I truly enjoyed my time getting to know you and your families.
If you are a registered member of these parties and I did not knock on your door, please don’t feel left out. The general election is in November, and I hope to have met most, if not all of you, by then!
So when you hear the doorbell ring as you sit down to dinner, or see a strange car pull into your driveway as you’re planting your petunias, it’s probably going to be me, wanting to get to know you. I truly hope to continue our conversations as November nears, and we can prove that reaching across ideologies and focusing on our similarities is what makes Lysander truly great. It’s been my pleasure getting to know you, and my privilege to share our collective patriotism.
