On June 6, the Cazenovia Central School District Athletic Department held a press conference to highlight five students who have been recruited to try out for college-level athletic programs.
The student athletes had the opportunity to announce their future plans and to have their photographs taken with family, coaches and friends.
Athletic Administrator Mike Byrnes introduced each of the seniors: Nolan Frisbey, Jack Aronson, Hannah Matteson, Shea Flannery and Samantha Morgan.
“Every one of the students making their announcements has been in touch with the coaches at the schools that they are attending and have been invited to tryouts,” Byrnes said.
Next fall, Frisbey will attend The College at Brockport, State University of New York (SUNY), where he will join the Brockport Golden Eagles football program. The team competes in the NCAA Division III.
Frisbey signed a certificate sent to him by head coach Jason Mangone welcoming him to the program as part of the class of 2023.
Aronson announced his plans to play soccer at Bentley University in Massachusetts. The men’s soccer team competes in the NCAA Division II.
This year, Matteson played on the Cazenovia High School varsity basketball and softball teams.
Next fall, she will attend Houghton College, where she plans to play Division III basketball. She plans to study physical therapy at the undergraduate level and eventually earn her doctorate at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Flannery will attend St. Lawrence University, where she plans to play field hockey.
The St. Lawrence University Saints compete in the NCAA Division III. Flannery is currently considering economics and business as potential majors.
Morgan has been accepted to Oswego State.
She intends to play on the Division III softball team and major in mathematics.
“I would like to congratulate all of these fine student athletes and their families,” Byrnes said. “We wish you nothing but the best in your endeavors at the college level.”
