Cazenovia Public Library to present 1950s movie matinees
This May, the Cazenovia Public Library will celebrate 1950s cinema with a series of classic films from the decade. All of the screenings will begin at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. Free popcorn will be provided.
The film series will begin with “The Court Jester” on Monday, May 6. The 1956 musical comedy stars Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, Angela Lansbury and Cecil Parker. The film tells the story of a carnival performer who masquerades as the court jester as part of a plot against an evil ruler who has overthrown the rightful king.
“The Court Jester” is rated “approved” and runs 101 minutes.
Upcoming films include “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” (1954) on Saturday, May 18; “Forbidden Planet” (1956) on Monday, May 20; and “Track of the Cat” (1954) on Wednesday, May 29.
Junior book club to meet in the Story Garden Room
The Wild and Wonderful Readers junior book club will hold its next meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden Room. The session will combine book discussion, games and hands-on creative activities. The group will discuss Story Thieves by James Riley.
The novel centers on Owen, a boy from this world, and Bethany, a half-fictional girl. The pair works to stop a fictional wizard from the Kiel Gnomenfoot series, as he reacts to the realization that he is a fictional character.
The junior book club is open to children ages 9-14. Books are available at the circulation desk.
Fenimore Art Museum President and CEO to lecture on artist William Sidney Mount
Dr. Paul S. D’Ambrosio, president and CEO of the Fenimore Art Museum, will return to the Cazenovia Public Library on May 8 to lecture on America’s first major genre painter, William Sidney Mount (1807-1868). The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.
D’Ambrosio’s lecture is inspired by the museum’s upcoming exhibition “Perfect Harmony: the Musical Art & Life of William Sidney Mount” — on display May 25 to September 8. The exhibit will explore the convergence of Mount’s passions for art and music through nearly 25 oil paintings, pencil drawings, musical instruments and related objects.
Library to show ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’
The Cazenovia Public Library will present free screenings of “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” in the Community Room at 3:15 and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the Community Room.
The 2019 computer-animated adventure comedy follows Emmet Brickowski as he attempts to rescue his friends from the Systar System, while dealing with an impending “Armamageddon.”
The film is rated PG and runs 107 minutes. Free popcorn provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library.
