The glow of its come-from-behind overtime victory over West Genesee on April 6 lingered for the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team as it moved on to overwhelm other opponents in its way.
The Red Rams toyed with Central Square last Tuesday, routing the Redhawks 20-3 as it staked itself to an early lead and then used seven unanswered goals in the second quarter to get clear.
Connor Durkin put together three goals and five assists. Matt Kemmis scored four times as Johnny Keib finished with three goals and two assists.
Will Davis and Tyler Brang added some support, each with two goals and one assist. Nick Kemmis had a goal and assist as Tanner Burns, Brendan Coyle, Hayden Braun, Parker Cote and Tom Sabatino took turns finding the net, too.
On that same night, East Syracuse Minoa defeated Auburn 11-8 in a rematch of last year’s sectional Class B final.
The Spartans jumped out in front 3-0, only to have Auburn match them goal for goal the rest of the half and then, in the third period, blank ESM while fighting its way back to tie it 8-8.
Somehow, the Spartans stayed patient, reclaiming the lead for good when Jackson Palumb scored with 8:06 left, and then put the game away with two goals seven seconds apart in the homestretch.
Most of the way, Lance Madonna (four goals, two assists) and Luke Rosaschi (three goals, two assists) carried the attack. Palumb had an assist to go with his goal, matching Eric Callahan as Tim Crouse got the other goal and Logan Lemelbaum recorded a fourth-quarter shutout on his way to 14 saves overall.
They both won again on Thursday, J-D romping past Cortland 22-6 and ESM handling Fulton 14-3.
Already up 5-1 on Cortland, the Red Rams scored 12 times on the Purple Tigers in the second quarter, Matt Kemmis eventually getting six goals and two assists as Pat Murad added three goals and one assist.
Burns, Cote, Nick Kemmis and Alex Sandville had two goals apiece, Durkin notching five assists as he, along with Keib, Coyle, Brang and Davis, had single tallies.
Meanwhile, ESM jumped all over Fulton, leading the Red Raiders 7-1 after one period and cruising from there. Madonna had four goals, with Crouse scoring three times and Rosaschi getting two goals and three assists. Mike Kavanagh had two assists as Callahan, Palumb, Matt Kenney, Joe Pacheco and Nolan Slimser also scored.
Coming off a tough overtime defeat to Brighton on April 6, Christian Brothers Academy roared back to form last Monday night at Alibrandi Stadium, routing Jordan-Elbridge 21-3.
Even with a 3-1 record going into the game, the Eagles were no match for the Brothers, who were already in front when it scored nine unanswered goals in a second-quarter blitz that decided the game.
Up 14-2, CBA kept going as Wyatt Auyer and Sam Bonacci each finished with four goals, while Ryan Mackenzie and Colin Kelly had three goals apiece. Preston Taylor got two goals and two assists as Joey Matheson, Dan Anderson, Colin Paciaga, Cole Mathews, Xie Shahin and Donovan Watson had one goal apiece.
A far tougher test loomed Thursday night, CBA going to Hyatt Stadium to face Skaneateles, but the Brothers handled this assignment, too, working its way to a 15-11 victory over the Lakers.
Throughout a strong first half, CBA worked its way to an 8-4 lead. Even after Skaneateles cut that margin in half during the third quarter, the Brothers were able to respond with a strong closing stretch.
Mackenzie, with his five assists, fed it to Taylor and Auyer, who each had four goals and one assist. Kelly scored three times as Matheson earned two goals. Single goal went to Bonacci and Josh Hulslander.
They all played on Saturday, too, and won again, CBA 27-3 over Bishop Timon/St. Jude, ESM 12-4 over New Hartford and J-D handling Central Square 21-2.
For the Brothers, Taylor had six goals and three assists, with Matheson scoring four times. Auyer and Paciaga each had three-goal hat tricks, Auyer adding two assists.
ESM used six unanswered goals in the second quarter to get away from New Hartford, Madonna earning four goals and two assists as Palumb got three goals and one assist. Rosaschi found the net twice and got two assists.
