Having both taken close defeats at home to West Genesee in the first week of April, the Christian Brothers Academy and Jamesville-DeWitt girls lacrosse teams moved on with lopsided victories.
At Alibrandi Stadium last Tuesday night, CBA bashed Chittenango 23-5, the effort including a seven-goal performance from ninth-grader Gracie Britton as Bella Roberson had five goals and one assist, with Gia Anthony getting four goals and two assists.
Riley Taylor and Amanda Winn both got three assists as Avery Penoyer scored twice. Single goals went to Taylor, Abby Hulslander (who had two assists), Tate Kohlbrenner, Grace Glowaki and Bella DeRegis.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, CBA ventured out to Marcellus on Friday night and, ignoring the Mustangs’ impressive 3-0 start, controlled matters from the outset and rolled to a 10-2 victory.
Steadily, the Brothers gained a 6-1 edge on Marcellus by halftime and controlled possession most of the way thanks to its defense forcing a host of Mustangs turnovers.
Though the production was modest, Roberson and Anthony both found the net three times, while Kohlbrenner and Britton each had one goal and one assist. Winn and Anna Ziemba had the other goals.
For J-D, a 3-0 week was capped by the Red Rams taking on its neighbors from East Syracuse Minoa on Saturday afternoon and getting an 18-6 victory over the Spartans.
A steady, balanced attack helped J-D work its way in front 11-4 by halftime, with Jordan Archer at the forefront as she finished the day with four goals and one assist, while Lindsay MacLachlan got two goals and four assists.
Chloe Loewenguth scored three times, with Ana Dieroff, Lily Loewenguth and Gabby Modesti also earning two goals. Riley LaTray had a goal and two assists. Kailey McKenna and Emily Bobrek also found the net.
Among the Spartans, only Emma Biel scored twice, with Rileigh White earning two assists. Sophia Orlando had a goal and assist as Kelly Thomas and Julianna Barton also converted.
Back on Tuesday night, J-D took down Central Square 17-1, again spreading its production around quite well as Archer and Every Kessler led the way with three goals apiece.
Close behind them, MacLachlan, LaTray, Lily Loewenguth and Kailey McKenna each scored twice, while Emily Bobrek had a goal and two assists. Dieroff and Chloe Loewenguth earned single goals, Modesti adding an assist.
As that was going on, ESM absorbed a 23-9 defeat to Auburn, getting overwhelmed even though Biel and Katherine Andrus both recorded three-goal hat tricks.
White had a goal and three assists, with goals also earned by Thomas and Barton. But the Maroons led 13-5 by halftime and did not let up as Natalie Calandria-Ryan reached double digits in points for Auburn with six goals and four assists.
ESM did win Thursday at Fulton, topping the Red Raiders 17-12 in large measure due to a great first half where it bolted out to a 13-6 advantage, enough insurance to play the second half at a slower pace.
Barton scored five times, while Thomas and Biel each netted four goals. Passing to all of them, White amassed six assists as Andrus had two goals and one assist, with Orlando getting a goal and two assists.
Meanwhile, J-D had its own road win, prevailing 18-10 at Cortland as it gradually pulled away in the second half despite an uneven effort from its defense as Dieroff poured in six goals to lead the Rams.
MacLachlan scored three times, adding an assist, while Modesti and Kessler both got two goals. McKenna had a goal and three assists, with Archer, Lily Loewenguth and Chloe Loewenguth also finding the net.
