The Bishop Grimes baseball team got a big win last Wednesday when it handled Skaneateles 14-6, with David Cifonelli the catalyst as he recorded a single, double and triple, finishing with three RBIs.
Cifonelli was far from alone, though. Matt Tarby also had three hits as he, along with Ben Rivett, Joe Wike, Seth Murphy and Ian Fisher, gained two RBIs apiece, Fisher scoring three runs as Dalton Damuth also drove in a run.
Wike pitched six innings to earn the win, striking out eight as he limited the Lakers to three hits.
Christian Brothers Academy got its own shot at West Genesee last Tuesday but lost, 10-4, the game close and low-scoring until the Wildcats put together three-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings.
Down 7-0, the Brothers did score twice in the sixth and seventh as Mike Schaefer and Kodi Dotterer drove in runs, while Jason Boule scored twice. WG’s Chris Bonacci hit a home run and earned three RBIs as Joe Comins and Tyler Kensey had two RBIs apiece.
But CBA turned it around on Wednesday to beat Homer 11-1, led by Boule’s three hits and two RBIs at the plate as Mike Schaefer pitched five innings and struck out seven, limiting the Trojans to four hits.
Then it was CBA’s turn to face Skaneateles on Thursday, just as Lakers ace Cregg Scherrer returned to the mound, but the Brothers outlasted him and rallied late for a 5-3 victory.
Through the first five innings, CBA had just one hit off Scherrer, scoring once in the bottom of the first. But Scherrer exited in the sixth and the Brothers, trailing 3-1, pounced on reliever Jack Carlisle, getting a run in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh.
Leo Genecco walked twice and got two RBIs, with Kent Wilson scoring twice. Boule, Matt Doane and Tommy Marzallo also drove in runs as Derek Jann and Anthony Marsallo pitched, combining to hold Skaneateles to five hits.
